Feature Check - Your Guide in the Music Reader Jungle

Trying to figure out which music reader app is best for you? Not easy, not easy at all...
The table below was created to help with the Fakebook app development, keeping track of the features of similar apps and providing some guidance on what users expect. Of course, the list of features is not comprehensive, but the choice reflects what we think is important. Look at it as a "road map" for future Fakebook versions if you like.
But we also imagine a comparison of music apps could be useful for our potential customers, providing some guidance in the music reader jungle. Hopefully you will find that Fakebook fits your needs -- if you choose someone else we are still happy to to have been able to help.

To the best of our knowledge, the information in the table is correct at the date of publishing. If you think something is wrong, missing or misleading, please don't hesitate to let us know at software@skrivarna.com. Thanks!

Great comparison. Thanks for posting. A couple of improvements I'd like to see:
ReplyDeleteFormatting is messed up - the archive widget is overlapping the top middle of the table.
Which products support PDF indexing?
Missing Calypso Score www.calypso-score.com
Any possibility of adding Real Book Vol. 2 PDFB files in C, Eb, & Bb in the near future?
ReplyDeleteAppreciate this list. FYI, MobileSheets supports export to JPG and PNG.
ReplyDeleteFYI: iGigBook is available for Android.
ReplyDeleteDo you have plans to add playback and MusicXML import?
ReplyDeleteI had to refer to your chart to work out what your app actually does. It seems to be distributed on the basis of "being in the know". I've seen youtube videos of what iReal Pro does, so I had a rough idea. Without either a demo version to try, or a clearer explanation, you app is a bit too mysterious.
As I have almost no grasp of what chord names mean, the most useful features, for me, are currently missing.
Fakebook links to real performances on Spotify and YouTube, rather than providing band-in-a-box style background tracks. At the moment there are no plans of implementing playback, as Fakebook is focusing on being the best available tool for live gigging musicians.
DeleteMusicXML is on the to-do list, but not really prioritized as most requests has been for chord charts and PDF book support. But we'll get there.
I can agree that our "marketing" can be improved... Thanks for noticing. I'm currently working at this, but again the main focus in at the app itself, so it might take some time.
I just typed a lengthyish reply, then pressed a button I expected to post it. It didn't. It was a Sign Out button, as it turns out - so my post was deleted. Typing it again, then signing back in, deleted the next attempt. That being the case, excuse me if this sounds a little bit tetchy.
ReplyDeleteI'm not talking about marketing, as such, I'm talking about communicating some basic information. All that's needed is a few paragraphs of explanation, and maybe a screenshot or two. A youtube video by someone who uses it would be good too.
You could probably get that done in a couple of hours. How much work would you get done on the app, in that time?
Your site seems to assume your visitors already know what the app can do, and maybe even how to use it. Instead, try assuming that some (maybe most) visitors will have no clear idea what it can do, and have never used a similar or related app, or even seen a fake book.
